Over the years, I have dabbled and fiddled with some of the recipes I learned from my home in the Catskill Mountain region of Upstate New York with some of the new ones I have learned in my time in South Carolina. The result has been unique recipe creations that fuse the two cultures combining the home cooking styles of the South with the hearty country cooking of the North. These recipes have never failed to get rave reviews by all who have tasted them. I like calling it ‘Southern Yankee Cooking’.
I’ve added 22 NEW Southern Yankee creations for you to try and enjoy! So without any further ado let’s get on with the cooking!Eat and enjoy!
Reviews:
I loved this cookbook! I could easily tell that the author has made every recipe he put into the book!! We’ve lived all over the USA and I can sympathize with the author. I like how he tweaked some of the recipes.. and flat out explained some of the Southernisms that I had not cottoned onto yet!
If there’s a dish that you’ve seen or heard about anywhere in the Southern portion of the USA.. it’s bound to be in this book. The recipes are easy to follow. Easy to read. And, uses ingredients that can be found very easily in any Southern grocery store! For us that would be HEB. (Texas). This is more than just a cookbook.. it also has some tales.. and you feel like you’re in the kitchen with the author sitting right behind you reading to you the next ingredient and when to add it.
I won a copy of this book from the author after being the 500th person to like his author page. He kindly sent me an autographed copy (thank you!), and I had the opportunity to peruse it before using it. Firstly, adjacent to each recipe page, there are blank lines where you can make notes as you cook, and I have never seen that before. VERY helpful!
As a romance novelist, I was amused to find there is an actual thing called “Hoe Cake” on page 63. I’m going to put that in a book, he he he. It’s “a southern bread that is cooked in an iron skillet, like cornbread.” The editing in the book was done very well and the recipes are instructed in a way that is easy to read and follow. I thought it was really original to have both Southern and Yankee Cooking intertwined. There are some normal recipes in here, but most are recipes are for interesting, quirky down-home dishes, ones you normally wouldn’t find in a normal cookbook like Irish/German Coleslaw and Southern Yankee Pulled BBQ.
Kudos to Brian Knack for being innovative and putting together a wicked awesome cookbook! I ended up making the creamy seafood bisque, which turned out great! For privacy reasons, I’m not going to post a photo, but the recipe was easy to follow and it was delicious! There are a bunch of recipes I’m dying to try, like the She-Crab Chowder. I will definitely check out anything else this author puts out; he knows his stuff.
Available in both Paperback and Ebook format.
